Active Directory and Exchange Migration completed successfully
FirstAttribute AG has successfully completed the user and e-mail-migration of an internationally known company in the chemical industry.
Within the Active Directory Redesign project, the Active Directory user accounts and Exchange postboxes of more than 5,000 users were successfully consolidated into one Active Directory domain.
The time-frame of 10 weeks for the user and e-mail migration was scheduled tightly. A new technical method, which limited the interruption of the normal working-process considerably, was used for the e-mail migration. After the completion of the client and e-mail migration phase, the server migration is being completed.
Main reasons for the project were the increased security requirements. The aim of the project was to create a secure, highly available and efficient Active Directory-infrastructure.
Technologically speaking, the following Microsoft products are being used:
- Windows 2008 R2 DCs
- AGPM (Advanced Group Policy Manager)
- System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
- Windows 2008 R2 RODC (Read Only Domain Controller).
As migration tool, Quest Migration Manager for Active Directory (QMM AD) was used for Active Directory and Quest Migration Manager for Exchange (QMM Exchange) was used for Exchange. The migration tools were complemented by extensions developed by FirstAttribute itself. With these tools and extensions the effort for the migration could be reduced. In addition, limitations during the AD migrationcould be minimized essentially.
