Active Directory Redesign and AD Consolidation project with FirstAttribute consulting
On November 15, 2010 FirstAttribute gained the contract for the”Active Directory (AD) Redesign” and “AD Consolidation” from aninternationally known company in the chemical industry.
The concern ran five independent Active Directory domains withabout 5,000 users. In the conception phase of the project, theexisting Active Directory was redesigned. Main reasons for theproject were increased security requirements. The aim was to createa secure, highly available and efficient Active Directoryinfrastructure.
After the conclusion of the concept-phase, ending with a POC(Proof of Concept), the realization of the ActiveDirectory migration followed.
Technologically speaking, the following Microsoft products arebeing used:
- Windows 2008 R2 DCs
- AGPM (Advanced Group Policy Manager)
- System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
- Windows 2008 R2 RODC (Read Only Domain Controller)
For the Active Directory migration tool QMM AD and for the Exchangemigration QMM Exchange were used.
The choice of the project partner was done during a two-steptender. The decision for FirstAttribute AG was made becauseof the employees’ deep knowhow in the areas of Active Directory andmigration. With the help of different reference projects,the specialized knowledge could be proven.
The whole project was executed in a very short period oftime.
